Permission sought to reopen Dornoch quarry





Consent is being sought to restart excavation work at a a sand and gravel pit near Dornoch.

AA and D Fraser, Rearquhar, have applied to Highland Council to resume working the Pitgrudy quarry

The quarry first began operating in 2016 but initial planning consent ran out in January 2018.

Operators decided at that point not to seek fresh permission for excavation work as demand for the material had reduced, but instead to use stocks that had previously been built up.

A representative for the applicants said they were now of the opinion that, although the local construction market was still limited, they would like to regularise the quarry status.

Permission is sought to work the pit for another 10 years.

It is intended to extract a maximum of 10,000 tonnes of material each year, using a mechanical extractor.

Background papers state that the average number of loads per day would be around three.
