A meeting of the Sutherland Community Partnership on Friday, December 18, will focus on mental health and emotional wellbeing in the midst of the Covid pandemic.

Cathy Steer, NHS Highland head of health improvement, will be in attendance at the online meeting at 10am.

A number of projects have been set up to support people across the county, particularly those in deprived areas where action plans are being drawn up.

Locality Groups, as they are called, have now reconvened in Helmsdale, Brora, Golspie, Creich and Kinlochbervie.

Funding has been secured by the partnership – which involves Highland Council, NHS Highland, Police Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, High Life Highland, Voluntary Groups Sutherland, Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust and many others – to secure project development posts to help deliver on the plans.

The Sutherland Adaptive and Collaborative Communities project – funded by the Aspiring Communities Fund from the Scottish Government and European Social Fund – aims to support those in Sutherland’s most deprived and fragile communities to develop and deliver long-term solutions that address local priorities and needs, increase active inclusion and build on the assets of local communities to reduce poverty and to enable inclusive growth.

The project is being led by Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust and the project team are working alongside Sutherland Community Partnership.

Gail Prince, project co-ordinator said: “Despite the challenging circumstances we are all facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Sutherland Adaptive and Collaborative Communities project has come at exactly the right time to make a real difference across the communities of Sutherland. The trust have recruited an excellent team and we are all looking forward to delivering the project.”

Chair of Sutherland Community Partnership, Chief Inspector Jamie Wilson, said: “I look forward to Sutherland’s communities benefitting from the skill and expertise that they will bring to the partnership as we work towards a positive future during recovery from Covid-19.”

Community groups, organisations and individuals are welcome to attend Friday's meeting. To register interest email sutherlandcommunitypartnership@gmail.com or call 01863 766190 using Option 1.
