The renovation project was carried out by Helmsdale and District Development Trust which took over ownership of the facility from Highland Council. It had been feared that the local authority would close the toilet block permanently.

Two major Helmsdale infrastructure projects nearing completion

Trust chairman Ruth Whittaker will speak at Monday’s event, which starts at 11am, and a ribbon will be cut by development officer Mary Stewart, who has been praised for seeing the project through to completion.

Funding for the redevelopment has come from the Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund; SSE Beatrice and various Gordonbush wind farm funds; Highlands and Islands Enterprise; and a community council micro grant.

A Scottish Governments Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) grant paid for the solar panels.
