North Coast 500 on UK ‘to do’ list published by Lonely Planet
THE NC500 has another string to its bow after being included in the top of UK “must do” experiences according to a world-famous travel publisher.
The route, which passes through some of Scotland’s most iconic scenery, ranked 37th in a new Ultimate United Kingdom Travelist guide published by Lonely Planet – out of 500 sights and experiences in total.
Visit Inverness Loch Ness chief executive, Graeme Ambrose, said he was not surprised by the latest recognition for the popular tourist trail.
He said: “We are at the start and the finish of the NC500 and Inverness will surely benefit from its success.
“The route has had a massive impact on the local area since its launch and it has become an iconic trail.
“Tourism has always been important to Scotland but in the last few years its growth allowed it to be truly recognised as such an important part of the country’s economy. “
Monster hunting at Loch Ness also made the list, at number 228, with other Scottish attractions including Glencoe, the Fairy Pools on Skye, Stirling Castle and Fingal’s Cave on Staffa.
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival took the number one spot.
