North Coast 500 caravan park with ‘infinity pitches’ opens
A new beach-side caravan park has been officially opened on the North Coast 500.
The site at Melvich provides visitors with 30 hard-standing pitches for motorhomes and campervans, described as “infinity pitches”.
Sitting just a short walk from the sandy beach and enclosed bay, Melvich Bay Caravan Park has panoramic views including to Orkney across the Pentland Firth.
The 25-acre park is on the edge of the village, which has shops and a café.
The business is being run by three directors, Angus Forbes, Malcolm Morrison and Mungo Bryson, according to Companies House.
The site includes modern toilet and shower facilities, electric hook-ups, water and wastewater disposal facilities including for chemical waste.
The owners say there is currently no wi-fi but the park boasts good mobile coverage across all networks.
Mr Forbes, who runs a nearby farm and a contracting business, said: “The North Coast 500 route has become phenomenally popular with visitors to the Highlands.
“We recognised that logistical and hospitality support had a bit of catching up to do, so we decided to take the initiative and provide high-quality local facilities, at a sensible price, which could make our visitors’ experiences more enjoyable.”
An overnight stay on the 12-square-metre pitches can be booked online at www.melvichbaycaravanpark.co.uk and costs £35.
The new business is hoping to attract NC500 visitors by offering them much sought-after facilities in a wonderfully attractive setting.
Mr Forbes added: “Melvich is a lovely, small and hospitable Highland village and we are hoping it will be given a welcome economic boost by the Melvich Bay Caravan Park and the steady number of visitors we hope to attract.”
