New officers for Tongue and Lochinver police stations
Two rural police stations in north and north-west Sutherland are to have a change in personnel.
The current police officers stationed in Tongue and Lochinver are to move on and will be replaced, local councillors have been told.
Chief Inspector Calum Smith, area commander for North Highland, spoke about the staffing changes during a virtual presentation he made to a meeting of Sutherland County Committee in Drummuie, Golspie, earlier today..
He said Police Constable Graham Prentice was still based in Tongue but would be moving on and another officer would be moving there “imminently”.
He added that the officer in question was extremely keen to be in Tongue and would have been there “two months ago” if he had had a choice.

Chief Inspector Smith said the current police officer at Lochinver, Kenny Macleod, would be moving to Caithness.
“The post of police officer at Lochinver will be advertised this week. so there will be a change there as well,” he said.
Cllr Hugh Morrison, North, West and Central Sutherland, said it was reassuring to know that the posts at the rural stations would be filled.
He said: “Please pass on our thanks to the two outgoing officers in Sutherland, and it is reassuring to hear that these posts will be filled.
“It is a big area from Ullapool to Thurso, and it is good to know that the rural stations we have up here will be staffed.
Police Scotland has a total of 35 stations across its Highlands and Islands Division. In Sutherland, there are stations at Golspie, Lochiver, Rhiconich, and Tongue. There are also police stations at Tain and Ullapool.”
A 251-strong cohort of new police officers will soon be deployed across Scotland after completing their training at Police Scotland headquarters, Tulliallan, last month.
