New care agency pledges a gold standard service

A newly-established home care agency based in East Sutherland is now ready to take on clients.

Highland Croft Home Care achieved dual registration with the Care Inspectorate last November for home care and support services following a year spent fulfilling the watchdog’s stringent requirements.

The new agency has been set up by Eileen Mackay who is running it from the family croft at 196 Lednabirichen, Dornoch. Well-known in Sutherland and Ross-shire, she is married to local farmer David Mackay.

Mrs Mackay has worked for nearly 25 years in the care sector, and has a degree in care management and a SQV Level Four in care. She was the manager at both Oversteps residential home in Dornoch and Innis Mhor, a Parklands Home, in Tain.

The ethos and business logo of the new firm is “Faith, Hope, Love” and its aspiration is to provide the best possible standard of care.

“We want people who use our services to have faith in what we do and we hope to strive to offer the best care,” said Mrs Mackay. “Everyone who works at Highland Croft Home Care, does so because we love caring for people.”

A team of 14 dedicated and professional carers have been recruited from various East Sutherland communities.

Mrs Mackay said: “The amazing team are waiting in the wings as obviously we first need to build up our client base and see how many hours we get in the various communities. But they are all ready to go when required.”

The agency is offering individually tailored care packages and hopes to provide respite care and overnight care, as well as support services such as gardening, shopping, looking after pets or accompanying clients to medical appointments or social outings.

“We are happy to take on any task,” said Mrs Mackay.

Highland Croft Home Care intends to expand the area it covers to Ross-shire should enough clients come forward.

On a first contact with Highland Croft Home Care, clients will be given information on the services on offer and an outline of the approximate costs.

A clinical assessor will then make a home visit to discuss the client’s individual requirements and provisionally agree the level of support and care.

After that, a personal care plan will be drawn up and a further home visit made to finalise it with the client and his or her family.

A member of staff will then be assigned to the client and introductions are made at a further home visit to ensure both are happy and comfortable with each other.

Mrs Mackay said: “I have been working in the care sector now for 25 years and I am so passionate about providing the best quality care because I have walked the walk.

“I know what people are looking for and they deserve nothing less than the best. And the best is what Highland Croft Home Care is striving to provide. We are committed to gold standard care.”
