New Carbisdale Castle community interest company to be launched on anniversary of historic battle
A community interest company set up to manage Carbisdale Castle after owner Samantha Kane withdrew it from the market will be launched later this month.
Ms Kane, who bought the clifftop castle in 2022 for £1.2 million, put it up for sale last year, after spending millions of pounds on renovations.
She said she had since held talks with a number of people interested in buying the castle, which was owned for years by the Scottish Youth Hostel Association.
However, she announced on her social media page last month that the sale was not progressing and that a community interest company (CIC) had been formed to manage the building.
A community interest company is a type of limited company run for the benefit of the community rather than private shareholders, with profits reinvested.
Ms Kane, a barrister by profession, wrote: “…Instead, I shall entrust the newly formed Carbisdale Castle and Forest Preservation Board CIC to manage the castle and open it up to the public for guided tours, afternoons and corporate events and stays and many other activities, education and entertainment for the benefit of the community company and the community at large.”
The Carbisdale Castle and Forest Preservation Board CIC will be launched with a champagne afternoon tea on Sunday, April 27.

The launch will be the culmination of three days of activities from Friday to Sunday, April 26-27, to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Carbisdale, fought near the village of Culrain on April 27, 1650. A Royalist force led by James Graham, Marquis of Montrose, was heavily defeated by a Scottish Covenanter army.
There will be ‘tours and tales’ of Carbisdale Castle along with afternoon teas and talks by Ms Kane. Proceeds will go to the community interest company. For further information and to book an event, email: info@carbisdalecastle.com
