Motorists warned of overnight delays on A9 at Golspie as resurfacing work begins

Five days of resurfacing work on the A9 at the south end of Golspie will begin this weekend.

Motorists are being advised that the road will be closed overnight with traffic allowed through at intervals.

Roadworks will start at Golspie on Sunday.

The £156,000 investment by Transport Scotland will see a 375 metre stretch of the trunk road resurfaced.

BEAR Scotland, who manage and maintain the trunk road on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the work.

The project is scheduled to take place over five nights from Sunday, July 14, between 7pm and 6am each day.

All resurfacing works are expected to be complete by 6am the following Friday, July 19, subject to weather conditions.

A full road closure with “amnesties” will be in place due to the narrow width of the carriageway and to protect roadworkers and motorists.

Work will be suspended at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am and 4am to allow vehicles to be escorted through the area safely. The A9 will be open outside working hours to minimise disruption.

Access through the works site for the emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative said: “This surfacing project on the A9 will help to address defects and greatly improve the surface for road users.

“The overnight closures are essential for the safety of road workers and motorists due to the narrow width of the road at these locations.

“We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight and by providing amnesty periods for traffic to pass.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these works.

“We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.trafficscotland.org, X at @trafficscotland or the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
