Highland mental health charity Mikeysline issues appeal for volunteers: could this be the year you get involved?

A CHARITY offering a lifeline shoulder to people suffering mental distress in the Highlands is on the lookout for volunteers.

Mikeysline – which now has established outreach hubs in Ross-shire – is seeking people who can offer peer mental health support to adults and young people.

The charity says that many people have considered becoming a volunteer and contributing to a worthy cause and suggests that the turn of the year is a good time to put such intentions into action.

It posted: "Have you been thinking about making new friends, enhancing your career progression, getting involved in the community or just helping folk in some way?

"Now that 2023 is upon us, you might want to consider getting in touch with us to find out more about what's on offer and how you can get involved in volunteering with Mikeysline.

"There are a number of ways you can volunteer and you can find more information on mikeysline.co.uk/volunteerwithus or send an email to enquiries@mikeysline.co.uk and we'll get back to you."

It is currently wanting to recruit volunteers to provide peer mental health support "to adults and young people who contact us via our digital text based support services, particularly for weekend nightshifts once a month or bi-monthly".

The charity says it provides induction training, on call support and a staff buddy as well as daytime office-based support "so that you will always have the team there to support you as you provide support to others".

In an appeal shared this evening, it added: "There are also further training opportunities should that be something you may be interested in. If you would like an informal chat around this to find out more and for us to answer any questions you may have, then we would be more than happy to arrange that for you."
