Melvich school children to take control of questions for fundraising quiz

A FUNDRAISING quiz with a difference is being held in Halladale Inn on Saturday, March 18.

The event is to help raise funds for Portskerra Play Park and all the questions are being prepared by local school children.

Local youngsters are preparing questions for a quiz later this month at Halladale Inn.

Melvich Community Council, which is organising the quiz, said: "It's either a recipe for some Saturday afternoon madness, or a couple of hours of great fun, or perhaps somewhere between the two!"

Teams of up to four are invited to take part with the cost £5 per team. Everyone will be given a free drink on arrival and there will also be a raffle. The event takes place from 2pm-4pm.

Portskerra Play Park, located at Mackay Terrace close to Melvich Primary School and Melvich football field, was closed by Highland Council in 2020 and all the equipment removed after it was deemed to be unsafe.

Melvich SCIO has lodged a community asset transfer request to the local authority to take over ownership of the 560sq m play park and is fundraising towards purchasing new equipment.

A spokesperson said: "To bring in grant funding, the funders will look at how much we have been able to put forward financially to the project ourselves, so every penny counts to help us get there."
