Major search operation launched after early morning report of missing person at Tongue





A major air, land and sea search was launched for a missing person in Sutherland today.

HM Coastguard responded to reports of a missing person at Tongue after the alarm was raised at 3.54am.

Coastguard rescue teams from Melness, Durness, Scrabster and Melvich were called in along with a Coastguard rescue helicopter, the RNLI Thurso lifeboat and Police Scotland.

A spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "The person was located by the coastguard and assessed by the helicopter's winch paramedic, who determined that no further medical assistance was required.”
