Investigations are being carried out following a collision between an offshore wind farm crew transfer vessel and a fishing boat in Wick harbour.

The Seacat Intrepid suffered a loss of power before hitting a wall and a smaller boat that was stationary at the time.

No-one was injured in the incident, which happened in the outer harbour on Thursday morning.

The 84-turbine Beatrice offshore wind farm is a joint venture between SSE Renewables and three other companies, with Wick as its operations and maintenance base.

A spokesperson for SSE said on Tuesday: “Whilst setting sail for routine operations on March 13 from Wick harbour, the Beatrice offshore wind farm crew transfer vessel Seacat Intrepid experienced a loss of power resulting in a low-speed impact with the harbour wall and a fishing boat that was moored alongside.

“No members of the public or personnel were injured and any potential damage is currently being assessed. Seacat will undertake an investigation into the root cause of the failure.”

Speaking on Friday, harbour master Ian Cormack said: “Wick Harbour Authority can confirm that there was a collision between two vessels in the harbour, one of which suffered damage which has yet to be assessed.

“Thankfully there were no injuries and investigations are ongoing as to the cause of the collision.”
