Wreaths were laid by Lord-Lieutenant Patrick Marriott and Alistair Miller, chairman of RBLS Golspie.

The Battle of Littleferry took place during the Jacobite Rising in 1746, just before the Battle of Culloden. The skirmish was won by a government force.

The Lord-Lieutenant spoke briefly of the extraordinary example of the Rev James Robertson of Loch Broom.

After the battle, Rev Robertson travelled to London and sought clemency for those in his parish who had joined the Jacobites at the outset of the war against his pleas.

Major General Marriott, who has written a history and trail guide of the battle, said: “Thanks, in part, to his and other intercessions, no Jacobite who fought at Littleferry was executed - although many were transported.”

The Battle of Littleferry Memorial was dedicated in April 2022.
