Linda Munro resigns from Highland Lib Dem group on council
North West and Central Sutherland councillor Linda Munro has resigned from the Highland Lib Dem group.
She said last night: “It is with genuine regret I have chosen to resign from the Highland Lib Dem group.
“My decision is based on the needs of my ward and my capacity to meet those needs.
“Coalitions by their very nature require a great deal of energy, investment and compromise by everyone involved. This will be the Highland Council’s fourth coalition in eight years and I have (uniquely) been a member of three of them and each of those coalitions has served my ward well.
“Nevertheless North West and Central Sutherland is rapidly approaching a tipping point and requires shoring up on all levels. My first allegiance is to my ward and for that I make no apology.
“I will look to the Highland Council, Scottish Government and Westminster to gain the support so desperately needed to make my North West and Central Sutherland ward sustainable.”
Linda is to continue representing the ward but will be a “non aligned” councillor. Her resignation from the Lib-Dem group means she will lose her senior post as the council’s Children’s Champion.
