Lidl poke fun at Tain-based Glenmorangie Harrison Ford campaign with cheeky imitation
A HIGH-PROFILE campaign involving a famous Easter Ross whisky brand and a Hollywood icon has inspired a competitor’s cheeky imitation.
Tain-based Glenmorangie brought Star Wars icon Harrison Ford on board for a whisky campaign that spawned a series of 12 short films in and around Easter Ross and the wider Highlands.
The campaign has won plaudits around the world featuring a self-deprecating Ford coming to terms with the kilt and playing down his action hero status in favour of a cosy fire and a warming dram.

Now, Lidl has fashioned a tongue-in-cheek campaign which pokes fun at its competitor while flagging a bargain-basement award-winning dram.
The World Whisky Awards voted Lidl’s Ben Bracken Islay Single Malt whisky best tasting in category, fighting off fierce competition.
Celebrating the win, Lidl has released tongue-in-cheek pictures “of a handsome gentleman drinking its af(ford)able award-winning whisky in a Scottish landscape…akin to another famous campaign”.
Priced at £18.49, Lidl’s Ben Bracken whiskies are available in stores nationwide.
The retailer, which has branches in Ross-shire, said the cheeky campaign was “inspired by another shoot featuring a star that fans may recognise from a galaxy far, far away...”
It adds: “In what could be coined as a whisky ‘Star Wars’, Lidl’s very own award winner is pictured in the hands of a dashing silver fox proudly donning the official Lidl Tartan in Bonnie Scotland. A nod to a recent campaign from a familiar big brand, Lidl’s whisky is conveniently an af(Ford)able £18.49.”
Produced on the Isle of Islay, a region famed with some of the most distinctive tasting characteristics and home to a plethora of world-renowned premium brands, Lidl’s Ben Bracken is described by the retailer as “a powerful whisky…packed with a barrage of recognisable peat and smoke flavours, making it truly unforgettable”.
The marketing team ooze: “Aromas of tangy sea spray, bonfire smoke, salted bananas and baked apples arouse the senses. Fit for a Hollywood palette, the obviously peaty aroma is backed up by sponge pudding and candied orange.
“So start up your Millennium Falcon and head down to a Lidl store to pick up this award-winning gem, available nationwide.”
