Last link to Cairngorm funicular repair work to be removed from mountain
The final reminder of the Cairngorm funicular repair works will be removed today by helicopter.
The chopper will be taking away the last of the scaffolding from the repair work to the mountain railway which reopened in January after being out of operation since September 2018.
A spokesman for resort owners Highlands and Islands Enterprise said: "The helicopter will be removing scaffolding that was used during the viaduct strengthening project.
"When these works were completed late last year, winter was already setting in, making it impossible to take the scaffolding off-site at that time.
"Instead, it was stacked safely at the side of the track by contractors Balfour Beatty to await collection in the spring."
Meanwhile Cairngorm Mountain has said a big thank you to its customers after the close of the 2022/23 winter season on Sunday..
The ski resort went out on a high after successfully staging The BRITS snowboarding and freeskiing national championships at the start of the month.
Around 32,000 snowsports visitors have been recorded at Cairngorm Mountain this past winter.
Operations manager Colin Matthew said: "We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that has visited us this winter and helped make it a pretty successful season despite not having as much snow as we would have liked.
"We also really appreciate the many great comments, messages and positive feedback highlighting the efforts of all the staff that have helped look after you while you were on the hill.
"We will post regularly over the summer on what is happening on the mountain, so keep an eye on our social media channels and on our website."
He added: "Construction starts today on our mountain bike trails which we hope to have in operation by early summer, so please look out for several machines operating on our lower slopes and please observe all signs, and path diversions."
