Lairg Gala Week holds gnome contest





Organisers of a popular summer festival in Lairg are running a garden character gnome competition.

Lairg Gala Week is a staple of the summer programme in the town and is traditionally held in July.

The home-made character garden gnomes must be at least 3ft tall.

However, the 2020 festival, like most other events, unfortunately had to be cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

At the time Gala Week organisers said that they would consider holding some kind of event for the community later in the year if it was safe to do so.

And now it has been announced on the group's Facebook page that it is running a character garden gnome contest, which has proved very popular in past years.

Entrants are being asked to create a home-made garden gnome measuring at least 3ft in height.

To register a gnome, text 'Gnome', your name and address to 07759502344 by Friday, July 31.

Alternatively, post a picture on the Lairg Gala Week Facebook page.

The winner, who will receive a £50 prize, will be announced on Saturday, August 7.
