Inverness Caley Thistle star Josh Meekings will go to trial next month facing a charge of causing a disturbance in Inverness city centre which was aggravated by prejudice of sexual orientation.

Meekings (23) had offered at an earlier hearing to plea to an amended charge of causing a disturbance in Bridge Street without the aggravation of sexual prejudice.

But that was rejected by the Crown.

The offence is alleged to have happened in the street on December 20 last year.

The charge also alleged he caused fear or alarm by shouting and swearing, challenging people to fight, uttering offensive remarks and behaving in an aggressive manner towards police.

Meekings, a member of the ICT Scottish Cup winning team last year, was not present at Inverness Sheriff Court at an intermediate diet yesterday when the court heard the case was set for trial on November 2.

Meekings played a central defensive role in the cup final team when Caley beat Falkirk 2-1 at Hampden Park.
