Internationally renowned singer-songwriter Edwyn Collins has put Helmsdale at the heart of his 10th solo album with a ‘teaser’ release of a new track.

The award-winning Scottish musician and producer has announced release details of his newest body of work, “Nation Shall Speak Unto Nation” and the release of the first track to be taken from the record – “Knowledge”.

The new 11-track album, which shall go out on his own AED Records was recorded at his Clashnarrow Studio in Helmsdale, and was co-produced by Edwyn, alongside Sean Read and Jake Hutton.

“Nation Shall Speak Unto Nation”, which is scheduled for release on Friday, March 14, is the first new work from the artist in over five years.

“Knowledge”, the first track to be taken from the album, was made available to listen to on Wednesday January 15 on Edwyn’s Youtube channel.

Beautifully accompanied by wintry video footage shot between Christmas and New Year in Edwyn’s home village of Helmsdale, the video has been interwoven with clips of a young Edwyn Collins in his pomp.

The former Orange Juice frontman reflects on the wisdom of knowledge and learning in this thoughtful ballad, while tackling the mourning of youth.

The video for the track has been directed by Delbert Anthonio Wright, a talented young filmmaker whom Edwyn has known since he was a child.

Mixed with a blend of gospel-style backing vocals, the track also features contributions from Pretenders guitarist James Walbourne and Edwyn’s son, William, playing bass.

“Knowledge is something I think about,” Edwyn himself says of the new track. “I used to be quite brainy, still am in a way. But knowledge is wisdom, combined with all the things you’ve learned. I think, I hope I’ve learned a lot.”

Taking to YouTube to comment, one Edwyn Collins fan said: “Absolutely fantastic return from the one and only Edwyn Collins. Keep on doing what you do so well and look forward to hearing the whole album in the coming months.”

Another said: “So wonderful to see Edwyn continuing to make music, he's an inspiration.”

Other tracks set to be included on Collins’ new album include “Paper Planes”, “The Heart Is A Foolish Little Thing”, “Sound As A Pound”, “A Little Sign” and “Rhythm Is My Own World”.

The new track is available to listen to now via lnk.to/Knowledge-Single. Pre-orders for the new album can be placed at lnk.to/NationShallSpeakUntoNation.
