Hunt on for young Tattoo salute taker
Organisers of this year’s Highland Military Tattoo are on the hunt for a youngster from the Highlands or Moray to play a starring role in the matinee performance.
Every evening the Tattoo performance draws to a close with the whole cast gathering in the arena and a guard of honour from the Black Watch leading a salute to the senior guest.
Tattoo director, Major General Seymour Monro, explains: “This year we have made the Tattoo more child friendly and have introduced a matinee performance on Saturday afternoon. It will feature all the elements that children loved about last year’s performance, including the RAF flypast at the beginning and the fireworks at the end.
“To mark this we would be delighted if a local youngster joined us to take the salute at the matinee performance on Saturday 12 September and shared in this unique and memorable experience.”
To enter, children between 5 and 16 need to email sam@thehighlandersmuseum.com by Friday 4 September and explain in no more than 100 words why they think they would be the ideal person to take the salute. Entries can also be posted to Sam Long, The Highlanders’ Museum, Fort George, Ardersier, IV1 7TD. .
This year’s Tattoo runs from 11 to 13 September at Fort George near Inverness. Featuring an RAF Typhoon fly-past each night, massed pipes and drums, local Highland dancers, military bands and historical vignettes, this year’s Tattoo also has a focus on high quality local food and drink with a new improved catering and retail village. Support for the village is coming from the Community Food Fund, which is financed by the Scottish Government, and has been created to promote local food and drink, in line with Scotland’s National Food and Drink Year.
