MYSTERY surrounding the history of an Ullapool memorial is hoped to be uncovered in time for its 100th birthday later this year.

The Ullapool War Memorial, located on Garve Road across from Am Pollan Park, was unveiled on August 18 1925. A ceremony to mark the memorial’s centenary is being organised — however, organisers have soon discovered that information about the Ullapool War Memorial is rather scarce.

Alastair Armistead, vice chairperson of Lochbroom Royal British Legion, is taking the lead on organising the centenary ceremony and is now appealing for readers to share any knowledge about the memorial’s history.

“The branch is trying to gather as much information as possible regarding the Memorial — original choice of design, how it was funded and any other information,” said Alastair. “There exists a small monochrome photograph of the unveiling and we know who unveiled it and after that we have no more information as regards the memorial itself.

“If any of your readers have any knowledge, documents or photographs relating to the Memorial, we would be delighted to hear from them.”
