Holiday company lodges application to turn dilapidated steading on Gledfield Estate into leisure facility





A HOLIDAY company is applying for listed building consent to convert a steading to provide leisure facilities on a Sutherland estate.

Gledfield Highland Estate Ltd has lodged an application to transform the semi-derelict Category B listed steading sited to the south-west of Gledfield House.

According to plans submitted to Highland Council, it is hoped to extend to the rear and front in order to house a spa, gym, restaurant, swimming pool and offices.

A car park and ‘ancillary facilities’ are also included in the application.

The steading conversion is part of wider plans for the former traditional hunting, shooting and fishing estate.

Estate owners the Pure Leisure Group, solely owned by businessman John Morphet, unveiled plans in 2021 to build 47 timber lodges at the 7000 acre estate.

A planning application was lodged with the local authority and its status is shown on the council’s e-planning site as ‘under consideration’.

However, the application has attracted some opposition with 14 objections in addition to a petition signed by 27 people. Their concerns are over water resources, sewage disposal, traffic and noise.
