As the search for the remaining illegally-released wild boars goes on in Badenoch, Highland MSP Edward Mountain has met with the Scottish Government’s climate change minister to share local concerns.

Mr Mountain met with Dr Alasdair Allan to discuss the ongoing concerns over the illegal release in the Cairngorms of lynx and wild boar.

Edward Mountain met with the minister after his previous questioning of the First Minister at FMQs on 9th January, in which he highlighted the ‘reckless’ abandoning of the lynx.

Scottish Conservative Mr Mountain said: “I met the Scottish Government to discuss the illegal release of these animals in the Cairngorms and was pleased to hear the minister reiterate the Scottish Government’s position that these acts were illegal and are condemned in the most serious terms.

“The concerted approach to illegally reintroduce the lynx into the wild has massive implications on our fragile environment which should be cherished, not desecrated by the illegal release of any species of animal.

RECAPTURED: Four lynx were released in January and all were trapped. One died and the other three are safely in Edinburgh awaiting rehousing.

“The individuals who released the animals fail to remember or have any concerns regarding the welfare of these animals.

“These animals cannot magically appear, and I will be making contact with the local Police to gain their assurances that these wildlife crimes are being tackled with an absolute focus of finding out who is responsible”.

There has been no further update from the team hunting the seven-or so feral pigs still said to be roaming the Glenfeshie area and Inshriach Forest.
