Highland Council has pledged to improve its grounds maintenance in public spaces and cemeteries

The move follows an “unprecedented” number of complaints during the last month.

North residents have complained about grass clippings been left on mown areas and poor workmanship as well as slippage in the grounds maintenance programme.

The service is provided by Highland Council’s own workforce and two contractors, ISS and Golder Grounds Maintenace Ltd.

In Sutherland the work is mainly done by the authority’s own team.

ISS has said that they are experiencing staffing and training issues within their workforce

Director of Community Services, William Gilfillan, explained: “Following a relatively mild winter, and warm spring, the weather has in general boosted the grass growth rate.

“As issues are identified we are dealing with them as quickly as possible either through our contractors or our own workforce.”
