Highland builder to appear on rogue trader programme
A builder who operates throughout the Highlands is to appear in a new BBC rogue trader consumer programme on Friday, entitled “How Safe is Your House?”
The Highland Council’s trading standards department allege that Norman Hughes (recently trading as Caledonian Roofing and Building and Driveline Paving) “has been carrying out shoddy paving work at extortionate prices and ignoring warnings from trading standards officers.
“To alert consumers, Highland Council trading standards officers seized the opportunity to be featured in a primetime slot for BBC One’s ‘How Safe is Your House?’ ”
Trading Standards hope that the show will allow trading standards an opportunity to warn anyone who may consider doing business with Norman Hughes, who is based in Fort William, and help officers to connect with those who have already fallen victim.
This new consumer issues programme was shown at 7.30pm on BBC1 in England and Wales last night and Scottish viewers will see it on BBC One Scotland at 7.30pm on Friday.
Consumers can contact Highland Trading Standards through their partners, Citizens Advice Consumer Service Helpline on 0345 04 05 06. Highland Trading Standards can also be contacted directly at 38 Harbour Road, Inverness IV1 1UF or by e-mail to trading.standards@highland.gov.uk
