Helmsdale’s newly refurbished toilets closed after flooding
The newly refurbished public toilets in Helmsdale have had to be closed after a flood caused damage to the premises.
Hemsdale and District Development Trust, which runs the public conveniences, said the facility was hit by freezing temperatures last week which caused a water pipe to burst.
The trust said: “The good news is that we were notified about the flood in good time so we have saved the majority of the internal fixtures and fittings.
“We are currently repairing the plumbing and electrics and putting additional measures in place to ensure this doesn’t happen again. We shouldn’t therefore be closed for too long.”
The toilet block, which had been closed for six years from 2018, was officially reopened in June last year following a major £217,000 refurbishment.
The trust took over ownership of the toilet block from Highland Council
