The £500,000 MUGA under construction at Helmsdale is getting "close to the finish line", with hopes high it will be completed by the end of the month.

A spokesman for the charity posted on social media this week: "Work continues on the fencing at the MUGA. Floodlight installation is planned next week and the resurfacing will take place over the next few weeks.

"We are working on all the final details currently and will keep you updated as we get close to the finish line. Not long now!"

It was hoped to have the building finished by March but the completion was pushed back to the end of August because of delays in the delivery of a roof for part of the structure. The roof finally arrived at the end of May.

The two-court MUGA is being built by specialists DOE Sport on the site of a former tennis court, which had fallen into a dilapidated condition.

The all-weather facility consists of a 3G astro turf pitch for football, hockey or shinty and a porous macadam surface for games such as tennis, basketball or netball.

At present there are no similar facilities in the community.
