WHAT'S ON: A round-up of things to do in Sutherland this weekend
We're spoilt for choice with plenty of things to do in Sutherland this weekend. Here's our top picks.
ROGART GALA
The annual Rogart Gala kicked off yesterday evening with a car treasure hunt and continues today, tomorrow and Sunday.
Tonight there is a fancy dress parade at Corry Meadow at 6pm followed by a fancy dress three-legged race and sport. Also barbecue, inflatables, beer tent and live music.
Tomorrow sees a Royal Crowning, also at Corry Meadow at 12.30pm followed by a family fun day. The gala ends on Sunday with a duck and boat race, a Songs of Praise at Rogart Mart at 1.30pm and more fun at Corry Meadow in the afternoon with a silent disco, beer tent and barbecue.
Volunteer Fair
Volunteer Fair at Dornoch Cathedral Green or (Dornoch Community Centre if wet) today from 5pm to 7pm. The event is designed to connect local groups with volunteers and provides a platform for organisations to showcase their causes.
History talk
Crofter and local historian Esther McDonald gives an archival presentation at Timespan Heritage and Arts Centre, Helmsdale, tomorrow 11am-1pm. Ms McDonald will be looking at how Portgower came into being at the start of the 19th century. Ring 01431 821327 to reserve a place.
Hall anniversary
Achfary Hall celebrates its 70th anniversary tomorrow 11am-3pm; and anyone with a link to the hall is invited. Reminiscences, refreshments. Call 01971 500221 if you plan to attend.

The North Coast Market is at Strathy Village Hall tomorrow 11am-3pm. Local produce and crafts.
School Fete
Bonar Bridge Primary School School Fete tomorrow 11.30am-1.45pm.
Family Fun Day
Dornoch Junior Football Club celebrates its first anniversary with a Fun Day at the Meadows tomorrow. Fancy dress 5-a-side tournament 11am and 1pm. Prizes for the best dressed. Ice-cream van, bouncy castle and raffles.
Film Club
Halladale Film Club screens Operation Mincemeat at Halladale Hall tomorrow. Doors open 7pm. Screenings are followed by tea, coffee, home bakes and a chance to chat.
Family Fun Day
Sutherland Women’s Football Club is holding a family fun day at Golspie High School playing field on Sunday 2pm-4pm. Mini football games, races, activities, bake sale, raffle face painting and lots more. Stalls and ice cream van.
