The long-missed Cairngorm Mountain Railway is haring around again once more - if only still at the testing stage.

Eagle was seen yesterday doing short runs and today Hare has been out for wee runs, much to the excitement of hill-goers, especially with the snow pretty much away again from the lower slopes.

Photographer and ski instructor David MacLeod reports from the hill: “There are a lot of people who just can’t wait to see the train get the go-ahead again after 18 long months.

“At the moment the only good snow on the hill is at the top but to use it they have to get to it and this train is the best way.

“From what we can see it’s running pretty smoothly but of course it’s just test runs and they’re a few yards - I can’t confirm just yet how far it is actually travelling today but I can say it’s sounding and looking good.”
