Durness Development Group has announced that its annual Golden Oldies’ Christmas Party will not take place this year due to restrictions on gatherings.

The festive foray is traditionally funded by the group and hosted by Frances and Hugh Morrison at the Smoo Cave Hotel in the village.

A spokesman for the group said: "This popular evening, offered to all over-60s in the Parish of Durness – and their partners – usually involves a three-course Christmas dinner followed by coffee and mince pies, a ceilidh with music from local accordionists Donnie and Katy Kay and John Morrison, carols from the children of Durness Primary School, gifts from Santa and transport to and from the party provided by Neil and Sarah Fuller’s Durness Bus service.

"The party has been held annually for many decades and is typically attended by about 50 folk.

"The DDG very much hopes that December 2021 will see a return to the Smoo Cave Hotel for this treat."
