Glencanisp outdoor Christmas fair hailed a success
A steady stream of visitors made their way to what is believed to be the first ever outdoor Christmas market held in Assynt.
The fair, held at Glencanisp near Lochinver last Saturday, was organised by the Crafty Crofters – namely Andrea Kant, Sue Jack, Jorine van Delft and Clarinda Chant.
Jorine said: "Under normal circumstances, suggesting to organise an outdoor Christmas market at the end of November would probably have been met with a whole range of reactions and I think I can safely say that probably none of them would have been 'what a great idea, let’s make it happen'.
"We were absolutely blown away by all the help we received from people, local community organisations and local businesses."
A total of 18 artists and craftspeople took part in the market, which was blessed with good weather.
Hand sanitisers, tables, a hot water urn for cups of tea, compostable cups, hobs for soup and gluhwein, gazebos, Christmas trees and decorations were organised, while people from across Coigach and Assynt brought a selection of home baking.
Jorine added: "What good fortune we had, not only did we receive an unprecedented amount of the most wonderful home baking, all our available tables in the pole barn and gazebos were filled with an amazing selection of talented makers, artists and craftspeople and local charities, and there was a steady stream of lovely visitors.
"That was all made even more enjoyable by the most amazing weather an outdoor Christmas craft fair organiser could wish for!"
