Further delay for second Loch Buidhe transformer delivery
SCOTTISH and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) have said that the first of the two large transformers to be driven to the Loch Buidhe substation site a few miles from Bonar Bridge, was successfully delivered on Tuesday.
But the second journey – originally planned for tomorrow – has had to be postponed again.
It is the fourth change to the plans by SSEN and is partly due, it is understood, to a police escort being unavailable.
An SSEN spokesperson said: “We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the successful delivery of the first transformer to Loch Buidhe –
including members of the community who came out to watch its progress through Bonar Bridge.
“The journey took about five hours from Invergordon to the site.
“Unfortunately, the second delivery planned for tomorrow has had to be postponed in order to ensure the right resources are in place for this to go similarly smoothly.
“Our team on site is updating signage in the area and informing members of the local community of this change. We will share a new date as soon as we are confident all the necessary arrangements are in place, but we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank local road users for their patience.”
The transformers, which each weigh 145 tonnes, have been delivered by sea to Invergordon where the first was loaded on to multi-axle trailers by specialist haulier Ale, working on behalf of Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks.
