FULL RESULTS: Sutherland Open Sheepdog Trials attracts over 40 competitors from across Scotland
The annual Sutherland Open Sheepdog Trials were held at Clynelish Farm, Brora, last Saturday, August 24, writes Mure Grant
Organised by the local committee with the kind permission of the Ballantyne family, the trial attracted over 40 competitors from all over Scotland.
The winner of the trial, judged by Magnus Sutherland, was Peter Martin of Cashlie, Glen Lyon, with his three-year-old bitch Ivy (P Martin’s Daisy x M Davidson’s Angus) with a total of 95 points.
Reserve champion was Michael Shearer of Lythmore Farm, Westfield, with his two-year-old dog Mirk (V Shearer’s Misty x M Shearer’s Jim) who was just behind Peter on 92 points.
County winners were Neil Sutherland of Strathnaver and his dog Cefneithin Spot (K Evans’ Spot x S Jones’ Bodetgir Jan) on 87 points. Neil and Spot were also placed sixth in the open section.
Reserve in the county went to Neil’s son Ian, and his dog Dan with 85 points.
Hughie Mackenzie of Badanloch Estate, Kinbrace, completed the county line-up in third position with his dog Glen on 83 points.
Donnie MacDermid from Skye won the Young Handler trophy.
