The Food and Drink Awards final will be on 24th October.

Four Sutherland businesses have been short-listed today for five awards in this year’s Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards (HIFDA), among 41 companies altogether.

Over the past few months, the 14 judges have read their way through dozens of written submissions, sampled a variety of the best of Scottish produce and deliberated their conclusions at length until the winning businesses for the 12 awards were agreed upon.

The Sutherland finalists are: Loch Duart Ltd, Scourie – one of three short-listed for the Healthier Food and Drink Award, and of five for the Export Award. Saladworx, Dornoch – one of six in the New Product Award category. The Pier Cafe, Lairg, faces competition from four others for the Best Eatery Award. The Kylesku Hotel and four others vie for the Restaurant of the Year Award.

The winners of all the awards will be announced at a special dinner at the Kingsmills Hotel, Inverness, on Friday, 24th October.

The winners of two additional categories, not open for general entry – the Ambassador of the Year and the Judges’ Award – will be made at the discretion of the judges and will also be revealed on the night.

The evening’s proceedings will be hosted by popular presenter and comedian Fred MacAulay, who is back by popular demand.

Tickets cost £75 plus VAT and can be purchased online at www.hifoodanddrink.co.uk.
