CalMac cancelled all sailings between Ullapool and Stornoway on Tuesday.

Strong gales were causing disruption for Highland ferry travellers on Tuesday after the high winds sparked multiple cancellations in the north.

CalMac is not sailing any of its usual Ullapool-Stornoway sailings on Tuesday, citing the "strong south-westerly winds" which were gusting up to 46mph at the time of their update at 5.44am.

And they warned passengers thinking of travelling on Wednesday instead to make sure to check their sailings are running before setting off. All were due to sail on Wednesday at the time of writing, but CalMac warned they are "liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice".

Overnight freight ferries on the route are similarly affected, with cancellations on Tuesday and warnings of possible disruption on Wednesday.

NorthLink Ferries meanwhile was operating to its scheduled timetable on Tuesday morning, but the operator was warning passengers travelling across the Pentland Firth that disruption was possible.

A spokesperson said: "Due to forecasted adverse weather conditions, delays are possible on all sailings."
