Jamie Neal Memorial Walk duo boosted by support of family and friends; £2k raised for Gamekeepers Welfare Trust

It was an epic trek that took around 11 hours to complete, with the heavens opening at one point and soaking them to the skin.

But the spirits of fundraising walkers Kirsty Neilson, of Point, and Ann McInnes, Brora, remained high thanks to the support of friends and family, some of whom accompanied them for short distances.

The pair walked a circular 32-mile route on Sunday June 28, setting out from Point in Strathbrora at 7.15am and on to Rogart, Golspie and Brora before heading back to Point.

At Golspie the women were given lunch by Simon Scott, head teacher of Golspie and Rogart primaries, and his partner. There they were also able to dry off a bit.

Their effort has seen them raise £2081 for the Gamekeepers Welfare Trust – the walk was in memory of East Sutherland gamekeeper Jamie Neal, who died in 2016.

Kirsty said: “It was lovely that people came out specifically to cheer us on. It just gave us such a boost. Folk were also so generous with their donations.

“It was really great – despite us getting soaked through!”
