Extension to Golspie cemetery on the cards
Highland Council is looking at the area surrounding Golspie cemetery with a view to expanding it, local councillor Richard Gale has said.
He told a virtual meeting of Golspie Community Council last week that the existing cemetery, which has 626 double depth lairs was filling up rapidly.
There are 90 vacant lairs left and it is estimated that the graveyard will be full in around six years’ time..
Cllr Gale said: “There is the possibility of expanding into a part of the primary school grounds - that is the most logical way to go as there is a fair bit of land.
He added that an area of unused ground across the road from the cemetery that was also under consideration.
It is understood the local authority stopped the pre-purchase of lairs at Golspie around 18 months ago.
