BIKERS dressed as a legendary daredevil stuntman turned heads in a Wester Ross community en route to a whopping fundraising total for a children's welfare charity.

The Welsh Ride Cymru group, inspired by the late Evel Knievel, set themselves the challenge of riding from John o’ Groats to Land’s End, using non-motorway roads, to fundraise for NSPCC.

Dressed up in their ‘70s costumes, the bikers stopped off in Ullapool on May 23 on their journey north to begin the challenge.

The group have already raised more than £26,000 for NSPCC as part of epic journey.

NSPCC is a charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK, relying on voluntary donations that make up around 80% of their funding. They provide essential services such as Childline, a safe and confidential helpline for children that runs 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.

Ride Cymru, who have done several fundraising drives in Wales before, are no strangers to Scotland. In 2017, they raised £5000 for the NSPCC by riding to the three mainland capitals – London, Cardiff and Edinburgh – in two days.

But this latest fundraiser has smashed that record and their Justgiving page has already reached over £26,000 at the time of writing.

Robert Craig Knievel, known professionally as Evel Knievel, was a flamboyant American stunt performer and entertainer. Throughout his career, he attempted more than 75 ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jumps and was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999.

Fiona Milne, an NSPCC fundraiser in the north of Scotland, said: “We are so incredibly excited to have the Cymru Knievels in Scotland to raise funds for the NSPCC.

“It truly was an epic journey and we really appreciate that they have chosen us as their charitable cause. The money they will raise will help us continue our vital work keeping children safe from abuse and neglect.”
