End of line in sight for Overscaig Hotel as application lodged to turn it into private dwelling
A TRADITIONAL Sutherland fishing hotel overlooking Loch Shin is set to be turned into a private residence.
New owner David Kranz and his wife have applied for planning consent for the change of use of the Overscaig Hotel.
Their application was lodged last month with Highland Council and is under consideration.
Beloved of anglers, the eight-bedroom Overscaig has operated as a hotel for many years with fishing rights on three lochs – Loch Shin, Loch A’Ghriama and Loch Merkle.
The hotel, set in six acres of ground, has a bar and restaurant as well as owners’ and staff accommodation.
It was purchased in January 2019 by avid anglers Kevin Muir and Karen Goldthorpe from Martin and Jan Fraser who had run it successfully for the previous 14 years.
Mr Muir and Ms Goldthorpe undertook a programme of renovation before putting the hotel on the market in March 2020.
Mark Hornby of Inverness-based MRH Design is the agent for the new owners.
He told the Northern Times: “They have relocated up to the Highlands for a nicer lifestyle.
“They purchased the hotel and want to transform it into a family home.”
