Easter Ross Musical Theatre celebrates its 50th anniversary
Easter Ross Musical Theatre, formerly known as the Garrick Singers, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
Group chairperson Anne Hurst said: “Our first musical director Lydia Jackson was approached in the spring of 1973 to do a small concert for a local event and this turned into the formation of the group in 1974.”
To mark the milestone the group is performing "Anything Goes" which depicts the madcap antics on board an ocean liner travelling from New York to London.
Billy Crocker (played by Shaun Cowan) is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt (played by Catriona Macrae), who is engaged to Lord Evely Oakleigh (William MacDonald).
Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney (Kerry Russell) and “Moonface” Martin (Andy Hurst) help Billy in his quest to win Hope.
One of the cast, Alister Sutherland, was in the very first show and this year plays Rev Henry T Dobson, a minister who is mistaken for a gangster.
Songs introduced that later became pop and jazz standards are Anything Goes, You’re the Top, All through the Night and I Get a Kick Out of You.
The show runs for four nights at the Duthac Centre in Tain from Wednesday to Saturday March 20-23, and starts at 7.30pm prompt.
