Dornoch author's latest romantic comedy is inspired by local landscape
Well-known Dornoch author Liz Treacher has returned to romantic comedy for her fourth novel, which has just hit the book shelves.
Vegan Recipes for New Age Men is set in Sutherland and tells the story of Lauren, who lives and works in London but inherits a cottage near Dornoch from a great-aunt.
In need of cash, Lauren reluctantly lets her cottage to a bearded bohemian called Nash who is soon entranced with the seals and bird-life on Loch Fleet and posts about it constantly on social media.
Lauren feels jealous that Nash is enjoying himself while she is stuck in London. Once she knows that Nash will have left her cottage, Lauren decides to come up for a holiday.
But when she arrives, she finds more than she bargained for.
Vegan Recipes for New Age Men is Liz's fourth novel and third romantic comedy.

Her first two romantic comedies, called The Wrong Envelope and The Wrong Direction. were set in 1920 and explored how difficult it was for women at that time. The two novels were well received.
Liz, who works as an English teacher and creative writing tutor, followed this up with a contemporary novel called The Unravelling with themes of family, immigration and the refugee crisis.
Of her latest work she said: "Living in the magnificent landscape of Sutherland has always been an inspiration for my work. This time I wanted to try and capture its beauty in the story itself. And I wanted to explore how a landscape can change someone - for the better!"
Vegan Recipes for New Age Men is for sale at Dornoch Bookshop and Liz will be signing books there on Wednesday,September 27 from 3pm to 4.30pm.
She will also be doing an author talk at Piper’s Coffee House in Tain on Thursday 5 October at 6pm.
