‘Do not use this area as a toilet’ plea at Struie Hill beauty spot
Highland Council has been forced to erect a new sign at a north beauty spot urging people not to use the area as a toilet, it has emerged.
The sign has appeared on Struie Hill, which has stunning views of the Dornoch Firth.
It reads: “Please do not use this area as a toilet. The nearest public toilets are in Alness (south) or in Ardgay (north). If you can’t make it, please ‘Bag and Bin’ all waste.”
The sign also includes a QR code for a map of all Highland Council public toilets and those under a comfort scheme.

A photograph of the sign was publicly shared on Facebook, and quickly received an outraged response from locals.
Muriel Eaton said: “You know the 10 years of educating the tourists has failed when you have to put up signs like this.”
Dorothy Smith commented: “Sad it has come to this. I feel sorry for the properly nice tourists that come to enjoy the beautiful views.”
Greg Forbes said: “It's a sad but necessary state that this sign is required. I wonder if the people who do this think it's okay to s*** in their own neighbourhood, local laybys and parks? I think not. Somehow they reserve this for their holidays... makes no sense to me from basic human values.”
James Reid said: “Admire the view but do not try to breathe in the fresh air, thanks to what’s left behind by the ignorant and selfish who use this beauty spot as a toilet.”
