Storm disruption on far north line causes suspension of services
Fallen trees caused closure of the far north line from Inverness to Wick/Thurso yesterday and workers are out clearing the track with services currently suspended.
Storm Malik and then Storm Corrie affected almost every part of the railway network over the weekend, with routes closed and speed restrictions in place as trees and other debris were blown onto the tracks.
The high winds resulted in a phased withdrawal of all ScotRail services from 6pm yesterday.
Network Rail Scotland engineers have been out and "working tirelessly across the network" to cut back trees and repair any damage caused.
Services along the far north line remain suspended while work to inspect the route between Inverness and Forsinard continues.
A ScotRail spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to customers who have been affected by the impact of Storm Malik and Storm Corrie. The severe weather over the weekend caused significant disruption across many parts of Scotland’s Railway, including on the Far North Line.
“Network Rail engineers are working tirelessly to inspect the route, remove fallen trees, clear debris, and repair damage to the railway infrastructure."
