Couple fly high with award for Dornoch's Eagle Hotel
They have had a difficult year because of the coronavirus pandemic, but the operators of a popular Dornoch hostelry have at last got something to celebrate.
Eric and Suzanne De Venny, who run the Eagle Hotel on the town’s Castle Street, have won a major award.
The couple have picked up a SME News Scottish Enterprise Award 2020 for the best family guest inn and local restaurant in the Highlands.
Mr De Venny said: “We are obviously delighted to have received some recognition in what has been an incredibly challenging year for us all.”
He paid tribute to local residents and staff who rallied round to support the Eagle after it emerged from the initial 2020 lockdown. The nine-bedroom hotel has a well-frequented pub and restaurant.
“We have had incredible support from our local community,” said Mr De Venny. “And this, along along with the great efforts of our staff has contributed to us being able to survive and thrive in a very bleak business environment. We have been able to keep most of our team in employment.”
The couple themselves did their best to give back to the community in lockdown, using their commercial suppliers to order in on behalf of the local Food Share Initiative and cooking meals for delivery to vulnerable local people by volunteers as well as to staff at the Lawson Memorial Hospital, Golspie.
