Far North spoon-player hits 50,000 views online as people from across the globe tune in to watch latest virtual performance

Spoon-playing councillor Willie Mackay saw his latest Saturday night rendition hit 50,000 views on social media in the space of 24 hours.

Willie, the Caithness civic leader, has being tapping along to different Scottish tunes every Saturday since the beginning of May and has been amazed at the following he has built up on Facebook.

Willie, of Oldhall, Watten, said: "Last Saturday night I tapped along to the rousing tune The Barnyards of Delgaty. By Sunday morning it had gone flying through the 50,000 barrier and by Monday morning it was pushing towards 63,000 views and 2700 shares.

"I've had comments from as far away as Vietnam and the Gold Coast. It seems if I can play along to well-known, stirring, toe-tapping Scottish reels being played on accordions or fiddles that people know it catches their attention and the views rocket."

Civic leader Willie Mackay is amazed at the following he has built up through playing the spoons.
