Bid to soften Clydesdale bank closure blow
Clydesdale Bank managers have agreed to introduce a number of measures in a bid to try to mitigate the loss of the branch in Brora.
Three senior bank officials met last week with representatives from the Sutherland Community Partnership, Brora Community Council and Brora and District Action Group.
Afterwards local councillor Deirdre Mackay said it had been agreed that the atm at the bank could be retained, giving the community access to cash
The bank is also to provide training in Internet and telephone banking to its local customers as well as the wider community including charitable groups and businesses.
Managers are also considering funding the installation of a secure computer terminal in a central Brora location for the use of those who do not have home computers but would like to bank online.
And in addition the bank has agreed to put pressure on the Post Office to re-establish an outlet in Brora, given the village will have no bank presence from August.
Cllr Mackay said: “The measures are all practical and go some way to address the worries that people have.”
She said it was intended to have a follow-up meeting with bank and post office representatives.
