Twenty-one vintage car owners from the central belt and England are taking part in the 600-mile Chasing the Haggis Tour, organised by the Austin Healey Club.

Organiser Donald Gordon, Paisley, said the oldest car in the run dated back to around 1960. Also taking part is a rally replica from around 1967 which has been rebuilt to original standards.

Austin Healey cars were produced during a 20-year period from 1952 until 1972.

Mr Gordon added: “Although the majority of the cars are Austin Healey 3000s, we also have three MGs, two jaguars, one Sundbeam Tiger and one Rochdale Olympic.”

The rally travels from Luss, Loch Lomond, to Dornoch tomorrow and participants will stay for three nights at the Dornoch Castle Hotel.

On Saturday the tour travels to John O’Groats via Rogart, Lairg, Altnaharrra and the north coast. The route on Sunday is from Dornoch to Ullapool taking in Bonar Bridge and Lairg and returning via Strathpeffer and Dingwall.

Mr Gordon said the Chasing the Haggis Tour had been run annually for the past 18 years although the routes differed from year to year.

“This is the final Chasing the Haggis Tour. We may well have another event next year but we won’t be using the name again,” he said.

The Austin Healey Club has 55 Scottish members and 2000 across the UK.
