Free cruises for elderly and disabled people returning to the Caledonian Canal
The purpose-built Highland Cross Seagull, based in Inverness, will take passengers along the waterway again on Monday.
Run by the charity Seagull Trust Cruises, it provides excursions for people from care homes, disabled organisations or senior citizens’ clubs.
Unpaid volunteers will operate two two-hour cruises a day each week from Monday until Friday September 30. Volunteers have also been servicing and cleaning the vessel.
It can carry a maximum of 12 passengers, with provision for four wheelchairs but for the current year this has been reduced to eight passengers and two wheelchairs.
The crusies retutn after a break of more than two years because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The cruises start at 10am and 2pm and there will be no mixing of care home residents.
Passengers will be served with free teas, coffees, juices and biscuits.
