Caithness hospital gifted ECG unit by local heart group
Staff at Caithness General Hospital were delighted to receive a £6500 ECG unit funded by Caithness Heart Support Group.
It was handed over by group committee member Joyce Macgregor (centre) to senior staff nurse Pauline Mackay (left) and clinical nurse manager Nikki Mackenzie.
It means that nurses on the Rosebank wing will no longer have to share one ECG with A&E in order to check patients’ hearts.
CHSG held their annual “Christmas” dinner at Mackays Hotel, Wick, recently, which proved to be something of a record with 111 sitting down for their meal.
Paying tribute to them for their continued support, group chairman Noel Donaldson said: “If the numbers continue to rise we might have a pleasant problem as the function suite’s maximum is 120.”
He added: “The fundraiser was originally held around the festive season but weather and competition with other Christmas events affected the turnout so, some years ago, the decision was taken to shift the meal to spring and it’s never looked back.”
A bumper raffle drawn on the night raised £673.20p which goes towards raising cash for the purchase of medical equipment for the county’s two hospitals and GP surgeries.
